She was born May 24, 1962, at Fort Ord, California, the daughter of William (Bill) L. Freeman, Jr. and Alice L. Greenwood. She was the third of four children.

The family lived in Killeen, for several years while her father was in the U.S. Army as a Military Police and C.I.D. (Criminal Investigation Dept.) Agent, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. In 1974 the family moved to Kempner where Dorinda went to school in Lampasas where she graduated in 1980.

All of her life she wanted to follow in her Father's footsteps and dreamed of being a Police Officer. She knew there would be struggles for her as a woman, in choosing a male dominant field, but she was tenacious and determined.

Shortly after graduation, she fulfilled her dream, by working initially as a dispatcher, jailer and then Police Officer in Harker Heights and Copperas Cove, Texas for several years. She eventually took an opportunity in Lancaster, Texas in Law Enforcement, moving to Ennis, Texas where she worked in the surrounding areas of Lancaster and Ennis as a dispatcher and Officer.

She joined the Ennis Police Department as an Officer, patrolling the streets for years, when her desire then became to be a Detective, where she could be an advocate for the victims. She worked tirelessly to help put criminals behind bars. After working with the victims of sexual crimes, her focus became to help those of sexual or child sex crimes. She felt she could make a difference, on life at a time. Police work was her life.
