Most of his career was working for Chaparral Steel in Midlothian, Texas. He retired from Chaparral Steel in Petersburg, Virginia and then returned to Texas. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing the bagpipes, listening to all genres of music, watching English football, rugby, and golf, and loved reading and continuingly learning new things. He loved telling everyone his stories and history and had a mind like no other. He also was an avid runner who completed many races and marathons, often winning his age group. Through the years, he enjoyed all his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. He loved supporting them in their activities, being a tutor and teaching them magic tricks.
Don was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, gran-gran, and great grandpa. He was loved deeply and will be missed dearly by all. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
