Donald Shipley Boyd

Donald Shipley Boyd, 77 passed away March 13, 2009 at his residence. He was born June 22, 1931 to Oscar Lee (Buck) and Roma Boyd in Hillsboro, TX. He was a 1949 graduate of Waxahachie High School and Texas A&M University. Donald was a Civil Engineer for the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation retiring in 1987 after 32 years of service. He served in the US Army attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. Mr. Boyd was a longtime member of the Avenue Church in Waxahachie. He served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Waxahachie from 1999-2006, was past president of The Waxahachie Country Club and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was an avid golfer. Donald loved to travel, RV camp and spend time with his family and friends.
His survivors include: his wife of 23 years, Lois Thompson Boyd; son, Michael Boyd and his wife Mary of Waxahachie; his children by marriage: son, Philip Thompson and his wife Cathy of Midlothian; daughter, Teresa Thompson Walton of Waxahachie; grandchildren: Donald Gordon Boyd and Anna Marie Boyd of Waxahachie, Joshua Thompson and Jeffrey Thompson of Midlothian, Jason Wooldridge of Waxahachie, Sunni Brooke Walton of Dallas; great granddaughter, Alexia Thompson of Midlothian. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Ruth Boyd, his parents, his sister, Betty Mooney, and his brother, Ronald Boyd.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Sunday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of his Life will be 10 AM Monday, March 16, 2009 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor David Brown officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Glynn Moses, Bobby Elmore, Gordon Graves, Greg Sallee, Horace Heine, Jr. and Stuart Thiemann. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Davis and members of his Sunday School Class at the Avenue Church, J. B. Lance. Interment will follow in the Red Oak Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
