Derek Wayne Scott, 21, previously of Waxahachie, passed away on November 30, 2008. Derek was a 2005 graduate of Waxahachie High School where he was active in Drama and Theatre. He was an outstanding actor and won many awards for his performances.
In July 2008, Derek along with four other teens across the United States traveled over 5,000 miles and 12 cities as they met with music industry innovators and mentors. The "Ragged Road" Tour was a dream come true for Derek.
After completing the tour Derek relocated to Portland, Oregon to pursue his career in music and art.
He is survived by his parents, Natalie Tekell and Peary Wood of Portland, Or, and Archie and Frances Whitten of Waxahachie; step brother, Austin Wood of Ft. Worth; maternal grandmother, Pat Tekell Smith and her husband, Rick of Longview; maternal grandfather, Jerry Tekell of Italy; paternal grandmother, Jo Ann Austin of Longview; great grandmother, Ludia Aston of Longview; uncle, Terry Tekell and his wife, Gayla of Denton; great uncles, Donnie Aston and his wife, Brenda of Waxahachie, Ronnie Aston and his wife, Trisha of Brady; and many loving cousins and many friends.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie with Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Auburn cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
