David Yowell

February 13, 1942 — May 9, 2018

David Robert Yowell, age 76, died on Wednesday, May 9th, in Waxahachie, Texas. He was born on February 13th 1942 to T.J. and Neva Yowell and was the oldest of their two children. David graduated from Sherman High School in 1960, before earning his associates degree at Oklahoma State College in 1962.

Between 1962 and 1964 David attended Austin College where he lettered in football and baseball, before transferring to Southeastern Oklahoma State University as a Graduate Assistant earning his Bachelor of Science Degree and his Masters of Education Degree.

David began his fifty-two year coaching and teaching career, spanning high school and college, in 1965, beginning at Bells High School. By 1970 David was coaching at Gainesville High School. It is here he met Sandra Cozort, and after briefly dating, David and Sandra became engaged before marrying on December 26th 1970.

In 1977 David and Sandra welcomed their first child, Coby, into the world, with their daughter, Ashli, arriving in 1980, to complete the Yowell family.

By 1984 David and his family were living in Waxahachie, where he coached the defensive line for the Indians. David's passion was coaching and that passion was rewarded in 1992 when Waxahachie won State. In 1994 he coached the Texas High School Coaches All Stars. Between 1997 and 2001, David coached football at McMurry University, Abilene.

David was a proud member of First Baptist Church, Waxahachie. He loved to serve his Lord and Savior, Witness to others and serve his Church. David was an Ordained Deacon, former choir member, greeter, and has attended numerous mission trips.

As Coby and Ashli grew up David remained a constant source of support and guidance for them. As they went on to have families of their own, David eased into the role of Gramps taking great pride in all of his grandchildren's accomplishments, no matter how big or small they were.

David was preceded in death by his parents T.J. and Neva Yowell. He is survived by his wife Sandra Cozort Yowell, son Coby and wife Brooke of Graham, daughter Ashli Clark and husband Russell of Waxahachie, brother Bill Yowell and wife Linda of Sherman, brother-in-law Tom Cozort of Angleton, grandchildren Talan and Teren Yowell, and Harper, Camden, Oliver and soon to be Lenni Clark; a niece and several nephews along with a host of family and many wonderful friends.
