David J. Smith, 74, of Waxahachie, Texas passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 17, 2015. He fought hard, but finally lost the battle with the illnesses that have plagued him for the past 5 years. David was born Anniston, Alabama on December 5, 1940. He spent his childhood in his home state and never lost his love for all things Alabama. After high school, David attended college at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, from 1959 - 1965. After college, David moved to St. Louis, Missouri and later married his first wife, Linda. They had 3 children, Robbin, Allison and Danielle. (David and Linda later divorced.) David successfully ran his own advertising business for several years before being called into the ministry in 1980. In May of 1980, David felt called to begin writing a biblically prophetic magazine that he titled "Newswatch Magazine". His first issue was published in June of 1980. After 3 months, his magazine was being mailed to 13 states. After 6 months, it was being received in 34 states-with word of mouth as its only advertising. Today it is read in all 50 states, as well as many foreign countries. David continued to write Newswatch Magazine until he was physically unable. The March 2015 edition was his final issue. In October of 1981, David was ordained as a minister in Glorietta, New Mexico, during a Feast of Tabernacles celebration. In January of 1983, David expanded his ministry to radio. And in 1986, he began sharing his messages on television. David went on to become a well-known minister of world news; in the light of bible prophesy. He has given thousands of sermons over the years, authored hundreds of magazines, Christian living articles, biblical pamphlets, and even 4 books. In October of 1991, David married his wife, Brenda Kissee. Brenda also had 3 children, Braden, Bridgette and Kendy. In May of 1993, David felt called to move his church to Texas. They eventually settled their church and their home in Waxahachie. Besides his devotion to the ministry, David had a love for a few other things; that his congregation and close friends can confirm. He had an undying love for all things Alabama, traveling and sight-seeing, football, basketball, racquetball, Outback Steakhouse, "man-sized" scoops of Braum's ice cream, dancing to disco, telling corny jokes, going on river floats, watching sappy movies, German chocolate cake, being very competitive when playing sports, cards and board games, especially Wahoo!
