David Leon Mooney August 14, 1948 - June 24, 2010 David Mooney, 61, of Maypearl passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 at home. He was born to the late James Cecil Mooney and Helen Rose Mooney on August 14, 1948 in Ardmore, Okla. David was a long-time band director and music teacher who also served for two years in the U.S. Army. During his retirement the past few years he authored an autobiography which is to be published in August and began work on an online Master's Degree in Arts and Religion through Liberty University in Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife Adele of Maypearl, his mother and brother James C. Mooney, Jr. and daughter Jessica Lynn, all of Maypearl. He is also survived by his daughter, Shannon Leigh Eaton. and his granddaughters Jaci J'Lynn and Jenna Caitlynn of Wichita Falls, Texas as well as numerous friends and former students. He moved to Burkburnett during his elementary school years where he completed high school. He graduated from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor's of Music Education in 1971 and began a band directing career that took him from Iowa Park to Haskell, Slaton, Vernon and Maypearl - all Texas schools. He also served as a volunteer football coach for the Baumholder American high school during his military service there in 1980-81 helping lead the team to the European Championship for two years. A dedicated community leader, Mooney served 2 term(s) as a City Councilman in Maypearl. He also served as President of the Maypearl Lions Club upon its inception in 2004 and recently as secretary. Mooney was an active member of First Baptist Church, Maypearl, serving on the praise team. He had also served as a music director in previous churches he attended. He was always proud to discuss his legacy that seven of his former band students have served or are currently serving as band directors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Maypearl (PO Box 158, Maypearl, TX 76064) and/or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004). Serving as Pallbearers are former band students, Stephen Smoot, Wesley Lunsford, Justin Southall, Jaime Isaguirre, Reese Petty, and Foster Schultz Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Maypearl Lions Club. Services celebrating his life are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Maypearl, with Pastor Tony Sheffield officiating. Interment follows at the Maypearl Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie. www.waynebozefuneralhome.com
