Mr. Cherry passed away at his Cedar Creek residence Monday night. He was born in Waxahachie, TX. to James Sylvester "Jim" and Jessie Lee (Kelly) Cherry. He attended Waxahachie schools. Mr. Cherry joined the US Marine Corps in 1951;receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He was a truck driver by trade with Mustang Trucking Co., retiring in 1989. He was a very active member of the American Legion of Seven Points, where he served as secretary/treasurer. Mr. Cherry had lived in the Cedar Creek area since 1981, moving from the Dallas Metroplex. He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by: one daughter, Jennie Lynn Cherry of California; Vera Friedrich, long time companion; children and sister of Vera, Bert Potter of Dallas, Cherry Napper and Karen Shirsty both of Longview and Ruthie Rallis of Cedar Creek; one brother, Bennie Ray Cherry of Gulfport, MS.; nieces, Jan Thompson, Patsy Cavender and Nancy Wiser all of Waxahachie; also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Friday, April 2, 2004 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
