Darline Johnson

Flora Darline Kirkendall Johnson was 98 years old when she was promoted to heaven on October 10, 2023 in Waxahachie, Texas.

Darline was the seventh child born on March 9,1925 to Charles E. Kirkendall and Willie V. Pogue Kirkendall. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Ruth Matejosky, Gail Owen, Lois Pereira and Gene Warren; brothers: J.L. Kirkendall, Charles Kirkendall and cousin Robert Harris.

She was married to Edward Walker Johnson, the love of her life, on June 21,1946 in Galveston, Texas. She will be buried beside him at Galveston Memorial Cemetery Park in Hitchcock, Texas.

She is survived by a son Charles E. Johnson of Florida and his wife Laura; a daughter Phyllis Collier of Waxahachie, Texas. Darline has three grandchildren who call her DJ and they are Lauren Vargas of Virginia, Ryan Collier and wife Jennifer of Tennessee, Andrew Collier and wife Kayla of Texas; seven great grandchildren Marie and Lucia Vargas: Megan, Susanna, Amelia, Laurel and Clyde Collier.

Darline “DJ” delighted in seeing and hearing about the adventures and lives of her grandchildren. She enjoyed gathering her family and friends in her home for celebrations and holidays. She took great care to decorate her home for Christmas and other holidays to host celebrations for family and friends in Red Hats and Blue Bonnets. She loved to listen to Broadway musicals and the old standards of the crooners. Darline loved blue and white china, Galveston, parties and family.

Above all else, she is a believer in Jesus, Daughter of God, and knows she is going to her eternal resting place in heaven.
