Danny Nolan Woodruff of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 18, 2021.
He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on October 25, 1946 to Nolan and Lillie Woodruff. Danny graduated from Ferris High School in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S Navy Seabees shortly after. Danny served two tours in Da Nang Vietnam. While on leave from his first tour he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Choate, of Rockett Texas on August 5, 1967.
Danny is survived by his wife, Betty Choate Woodruff, daughter Jennifer Holt, son-in-law Bryan Holt, granddaughter Jessica Griffith and great grandson, "his little buddy" Greyson Lee, all of Waxahachie, TX, brother Clifton Troy Woodruff, Sr. of Shreveport, LA, sister Diane Woodruff of Dry Prong, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was Santa to them for many years, played pranks, joked with them and was as big of a kid as they were, all the while a mentor and an uncle they all looked up to.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Nolan and Lillie Woodruff and nephew James "Jimmy" Woodruff.
Danny's military awards included the National Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was also in the Texas Army National Guard for almost 16 years, was a lifetime member of the Ellis County Radio Club and a weather spotter.
Visitation is scheduled at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A military graveside service will be held at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas at a later date.
