Danny Pope, age 65

Danny was born October 10, 1939 to Joe C. and Irene Pope in Jacksonville. He left this life in Waxahachie from complications of a liver transplant at the age of 65, October 23, 2004. He was "Daddy D" to the grandchildren.
He attended schools in Jacksonville graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1957. He attended SFA in Nacogdoches, Jacksonville College, and BMAA Theological Seminary in Jacksonville. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education from Alabama Bible College and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Anchor Theological Seminary.
He surrendered to the Gospel ministry in 1964 at his home church, First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. He pastored Sanders Creek, Donie; Walnut Grove, Garrison; Temple, Pt. Neches; Friendship, Dallas; and Myrtle Springs, Quitman. In 1974 he accepted the position of editor of the Baptist Progress, the official publication of the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas. He retired November 2002 because of health problems.
He served active duty in the 49th Army National Guard in 1962; was a member of the Farley Street Baptist Church, Senior Adult Ministry of the church, Mixed-up Sunday School Class, the Waxahachie What-a-burger Coffee Group, Waxahachie Senior Citizens. He was also a member of Waxahachie Lodge 90.
Survivors include; wife of 44 years, Dian; children, Donna and Alan Greenwood of Rowlett; Dwayne and Lisa Pope and Darla and Jonny Wilson of Waxahachie;
grandchildren, Grant and Kaleigh Greenwood, Derek Pope, and Luke and Kaleb Wilson; his mother-in-law, Grace Cassity of Carthage; aunts, Wanda Pope of Jacksonville and Joe Ella Pope of Texas City; other relatives include, John and Danny Sue Cassity, Virginia and Mack Bassett of Henderson, Judy and Jack Watkins of New Salem, Mary and Kenneth Mauritzen of Clayton, and Joe and Judy Cassity of Carthage; cousins, nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Monday night at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
Visitation will also be 1-1:45 at the Farley Street Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 with the Celebration of Life at 2 with Dr. Harold Brunson officiating. Interment will be at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
