Clarence Melvin Wilson, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 23, 1929, in Waxahachie to Charley A. and Roberta Johnson Wilson. He accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was 13 years old. He was a 1947 graduate of Waxahachie High School and later attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington in 1947-48. Clarence was a partner and co-owner of C.A. Wilson Company with his dad and three brothers until his retirement in March of 2005. He had a great respect and devotion to them.
He married his high school sweetheart, Lila Giles, on October 14, 1950. They were married for almost 68 years. They were blessed to have four children, Emily Clare, Keredith Mills, Angela Sue and Jonathan Quinn.
Clarence had been an active member of Farley Street Baptist Church since January of 1951. He served in many different areas including deacon, teacher, choir member, church treasurer and served on many committees through the years. In 2016, he was honored by receiving the Servant's Heart Award at Farley Street Baptist Church. Clarence dedicated himself to the service of Jesus Christ, his family and his church. His desire to live in God's will was an inspiration to others and his greatest desire was for others to know Jesus as their Savior. He leaves a living legacy of adoring family and friends as well as a host of brothers and sisters in Christ.
He was a former member of the Board of Directors for Jacksonville Baptist College in Jacksonville, Texas. He was also a former member of the Lions' Club and served as it's President in 1972. He was included in Personalities of the South in 1973. In October 2007, he was inducted into the Waxahachie High School Hall of Fame by his peers. He served on the Board of Directors for Campfire Creek Therapeutic Riding Center in Waxahachie.
His family was very important to him and he looked forward to their times together whether it be for lunch on Sundays or vacationing with them in Colorado. One of his favorite memories was his 86th birthday in Cuchara, Colorado with twenty-seven members of his family there to help him celebrate. For 49 years, the family made many wonderful memories there that will be cherished forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin and Lonell, and two sisters, Aline Wilson O'Daniel and Betty Lou Wilson Parton.
He is survived by his wife, Lila; children Emily Wilson Oliver and husband, Bobby, Kerry and wife, Kathy, Angy Wilson Bruce and husband, Rick, Jon and wife, Darla. He was blessed with twelve grandchildren; Meredith Martin, Kerrah Turner and husband Cole, Natalie Oliver, Wil Oliver, Jon Cox and wife Jaclyn, Abby Hunt and husband Lance, Mitchell Cox, Grant Bruce and wife Kelsey, Blake Bruce, Celi Bruce, Luke Wilson and Kaleb Wilson. He also had twelve great-grandchildren: Emma Oliver, Fayth Hunt, Bryce Martin, Garret Bruce, Ty Turner, Ella Hunt, Kade Bruce, Julianna Cox, Lainey Turner, Jessa Cox, Jennings Cox, and Jaci Bruce. He was also PaPa to Louie Cravens, Quincy Johnson, Jr., Jaya Johnson and Haze Butler. He is also survived by his brother Charley Wilson and wife Iris; sister Linda Strength and husband James; sister Wanda Way and husband, Cliff; and sister-in-law Betty Wilson; four nieces and eleven nephews. He thought of the Giles family as his own. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Faye Giles Thompson, two special nieces and and six nephews in the Giles family.
Visitation will be held Wayne Boze Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20. A celebration of life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21 at the Farley Street Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Wilson Cemetery on West Business 287.
