Clare Patricia Bird

Clare Patricia McElhenny Bird of Waxahachie, TX was born September 10, 1932, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday morning May 7, 2024, surrounded by family at the age of 91.

Clare married the love of her life of 64 years, Charles Knowles Bird on August 1, 1959. They met at a dance, while he was stationed in Scranton, PA in the Army. The Birds and their children relocated to Waxahachie, TX in 1972. Known for her kindness and caring heart, she will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved her. In 1974 she began an extensive career in the banking industry, where she proudly and lovingly served her community for 47 years, earning many customer service awards, and was honored by the Mayor of Waxahachie, deeming it, “Clare Bird Day.” She retired in 2016 from Comerica Bank.

Clare was proceeded in death by: Husband Charles: Parents David & Jane McElhenny, brothers Billy, David, and Earl McElhenny; Sisters Jane, Liz, Lois, and Barbara.

Survived by sons Dwight Bird & wife Mihyang of Seoul, South Korea, Scott Bird & wife Sylvia of Ennis, TX; daughter: Stacey Bird Osbourn of Waxahachie, TX: brother Paul McElhenny & wife Kay of Scranton, PA; brother-in-law Tom Bird & wife Pat of Sugarland, TX. Granddaughters: Hannah Andrews of Athens, TX, Haleigh Osbourn of Waxahachie, TX and Pam Cooper of Ennis, TX. Grandsons: Blake Osbourn of Denison, TX, Clint Cooper of Ennis, TX. Great-grandchildren: Solsya, Ada, Jessie, Hope, Faith, Andrew, Kayleigh, Dylan, and Gracie.
