Christopher Wendler

Chris Wendler, age 71, passed away on December 8, 2017, at the Dallas V. A. Medical Center. Chris was born in Dallas, played high school sports in Plano, football at UNT in Denton, and later on became an avid golfer, excelling in every sport in which he participated.

Chris and his family moved to Waxahachie in 1985, and he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy; daughter Ashley and her children Chase and Alexus; son Justin and his wife Sherri and their children Trevor and Alaylah; daughter Rebecca and her husband Mike Grimes and their children Laura, Casey and Miyah; son Griffin and his wife Cassidy and their sons Maverick and Greyer; sister Wendy Wendler and uncle Raymond Zachary.

Chris enlisted in the United States Army in February of 1967, serving in Vietnam as a member of the F-Troop, 17th CAV, 196th LIB. He was honorably discharged in March of 1969 at the rank of Sgt. E5. After his discharge from the Army, he remained in close contact with his fellow F-Troop "Battle Buddies" and was so fortunate to have had bedside visits with four of them, Jim, Angus, Lee and Don, during his hospital stay.

To say Chris was an incredibly unique individual would be an understatement! Beneath his sometimes gruff and stoic persona and dry sense of humor, was a man who was generous to a fault; treasured his friendships, both old and new; and above all else cherished his family to whom he was totally devoted.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff at the V. A. Medical Center for the compassion, comfort and respect Chris received while in their care.

The family would be honored if you would join them in a Celebration of Life memorial at the Waxahachie Country Club dining room on Sunday, December 17, from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. Come share your stories and memories of this truly wonderful man.

To honor his wishes, Chris will be laid to rest with military honors at the DFW National Cemetery, on April 13, 2018 at 11 AM.
