Charlie Taylor

Charlie Wooten Taylor, 91, of Waxahachie passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at his home. Charlie was born April 28, 1927 in Floydada, Texas to John and Bessie Taylor.

After graduating from Plainview High School in 1944, he married Dorothy Jo Height of Hart, Texas on June 16th, after one date and on a dare. They then shared almost 73 happy years of marriage together.

Charlie served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during WWII. He then farmed side-by-side with Dorothy when he returned home. They had three sons before moving to Waxahachie in 1956.

Charlie was a self-employed businessman, holding several jobs throughout his lifetime. Most notably, he owned three service stations and the bus depot in Waxahachie.

Charlie was a very strong Christian. He and Dorothy served as devoted members of Farley Street Baptist Church since 1956. He served as a Deacon for over 50 years. Charlie was also a proud member of the Optimist Club, holding several positions and receiving awards for his 30+ years of service.

His survivors include son, Don Taylor of Waxahachie; sister, Edith James of Bentonville, AR; sister, Juanell Newton and husband Wayne of Sulphur Springs, TX; brother, Donald Taylor and wife Audrey of Plainview, TX; brother, Windell Taylor of Amarillo, TX; sister, Bessie Collis of Temple, TX; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Dorothy Taylor; his parents, sons, Ronnie and Paige Taylor; sisters, Evelyn Hudgins, Edna Earl Hudgins, and Ruby Birdsong; brother, Billy Ray Taylor; and daughter-in-law, Carole Taylor.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 19th at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 20th at Farley Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Farley Street Baptist Church.
