September 20, 2004

Mr. Kirk passed away Monday at his Waxahachie residence, after an eight year battle with cancer. He was born July 5, 1927 near the Longbranch Community, the son of Roy Hugh and Mary Roberta (Sandeford) Kirk. He attended schools at Pleasant Mound near Dallas, Marvin Elementary in Waxahachie, Sterrett in Ellis County, Ball High in Galveston and Waxahachie High School. He played on the high school football and baseball teams. Charles was in US Marines. After his discharge, he worked in the construction business with his dad, working on many Dallas buildings. He married Claire Elaine McKay on February 22, 1947 at Farley Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie, the Reverend L. H. Raney officiating. In 1978 they moved into the house where Claire was born, 327 University Avenue. He retired in 1990 to enjoy his favorite pastime of fishing and puttering around the house. He made birdhouses, picture frames, flower boxes and quilt hangers for a local Waxahachie gift shop. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Waxahachie.

Charles is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Claire Kirk; son, Charles Scott Kirk; daughter, Roberta Elaine "Kirk" Goodman, all of Waxahachie; one brother, Billy Don Kirk of Holley Lake; sister, Mary Erlene Smith of Ft. Worth; grandson, Joshua McKay Devore; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
