Charles Edwin Humphries, age 85, passed away June 23, 2019 in Arlington at the Texas Masonic Retirement Center.  He peacefully left us while surrounded by family.

He was born in Ellis County December 12, 1933 to Bennie and Fannie Humphries.  Due to his parents delay in selecting a first name, his original birth certificate listed him as “No Name” Humphries.  At age 21, this error followed him into the Armed Forces and caused Charles considerable grief during roll call and Army Boot Camp from Drill Sergeants who insisted on calling him “No Name” Humphries.

Charles was raised in Rockett, Texas on a farm.  By the age of 9, he was working his parent’s farm.  He baled hay, picked cotton and delivered raw cotton to the gin.  He attended and graduated from the Red Oak school system.  Out of High School Charles was employeed by Texas Power and Light in Waxahachie, Texas.  His forty-seven year Career as a lineman and crew foreman with Texas Power and Light included stops in Decatur, Lake Dallas, Forney and Red Oak.  The Army drafted Charles during the Korean War Era.  He also served in the Texas National Guard and Reserves.  Charles loved to fly airplanes and gliders.  He earned a commercial pilot license through the Veteran’s Benefit Program.  Charles was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite Member and a Hella Shriner.

He is survived by children Larry Humphries, LaNita LaFon, Rhonda Miller and Tess Duke; son-in-laws Mark LaFon, Paul Miller and Craig Dellio.  The grandchildren include Dustin LaFon, Haley Epperson, Alec Miller, Colton Miller, Nick Falldine, Katy Alaniz and Sara Baumann.  There are numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  There will be no funeral procession from the funeral home to the graveside service.  Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Rockett, Texas at Bell’s Chapel Cemetery with Reverend Richard Smith officiating.

The family respectfully requests no flowers.  Donations are suggested for No Mason Left Behind Project - 1501 W. Division, Arlington, Texas 76012 - Phone 817-275-2893 - MasonicLiving.org.
