Charles A. Campbell, of Waxahachie, passed peacefully at home with family by his side Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009. Charles was born July 18, 1929, in McAllen, Texas. Charles and his wife Betty (Burton) Campbell have been residents of Waxahachie since 1973. The couple married in December of 1951 and have five children.
Charles was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Tech Sergeant in the Korean War. He resigned from military service in 1956. After his military service ended, he worked for IBM where he retired after 30 years of service. During retirement, Charles enjoyed working as a custom hay bailer.
Charles is survived by Betty, his wife of 57 years, and their five children and their spouses: Leslie Campbell and wife, Denise, of Waxahachie; Charlene McPherson and husband, Glen, of Waxahachie; Liz Almond and husband, Kevin, of Maypearl; Laura Hugghins and husband, Kevin, of Waxahachie; and Charles Campbell, III and wife, Brandy, of Glen Rose. Charles is also survived by ten grandchildren: Dane Campbell and wife, Chris; Nathan Campbell; Audrey Milburn and husband, Dustin; Roy and Samantha Almond; Sgt. Charles Hugghins and Ashley Hugghins; and Chas, Ty and Allie Campbell. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters as honorary pallbearers. Standing in for Sgt. Charles Hugghins is Kenny Johnson.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ruth (Poe) Campbell, Sr.; sister, Barbara Thompson Rudd; uncle Leslie and aunt Maro (Speight) Booth.
Charles and Betty have been active members of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Charles spent his later years enjoying time with his wife and family and making many memories with his church friends.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Ferris Heights United Methodist Church in Waxahachie. Military honors will follow at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
