Charles Avinger of Midlothian, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the age of 72. He was born in Brady, Texas the only child of Virgie and Allison Avinger on November 20, 1946 and was raised in Southern California; Ranger, Texas; and communities in Arizona including Kayenta, Snowflake, and Flagstaff. Charles served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970 and was stationed in Utah and Alaska. Always the adventurer, in early April 1970 Charles drove the Alaskan Highway (Anchorage to Ranger Texas) in five days when much of the road was rocks and ice. He loved to snow ski in the mountains of New Hampshire, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and California. He also enjoyed the challenges of four wheel driving over mountain passes. Charles is survived by his wife of 22 years, Marilyn Avinger, and his cousins Camille Hornbeck (Jeff), Dr. Bill Lee (Janice), and Cassandra Smart. He was also survived by his sister-in-laws Patricia Deneen (Robert) and Carol Benson and brothers-in-law Jim Blindauer (Cindy) and David Blindauer (Jacki), ten nieces and nephews, and his “adopted” sister, Corinne Bellmaire. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Susan Ball and her husband Frank Ball. Funeral arrangements are pending.
