Charleene Pitts

December 12, 1921 — December 6, 2018

Charleene McWhorter Pitts, age 96 of Waxahachie, passed away December 06, 2018 in Waxahachie.  She was born in Waxahachie, December 12, 1921, she attended the public schools in Waxahachie graduating in 1939 and attended Trinity University class of 1943. Charleene married her childhood sweetheart, Bill Pitts, Jr. on July 14, 1942.  They shared 73 amazing years together before Bill’s passing in 2015.  After raising their three children, Charleene became an Accredited Records Technician in the Medical Records Department of WC Tennery Community Hospital, now Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Waxahachie.  After retirement in 1984 she and Bill traveled extensively to all 50 states, Europe, Soviet Union, New Zealand and Australia.  However, they were always glad to return home!

Charleene was the last charter member of the Auxilary to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, Waxahachie.  Her volunteering began at the old WC Tennery Community Hospital fifty years ago.

Throughout the years, Charleene was instrumental in creating and growing many of the organizations that are successful today in our community. After surviving breast cancer she became a volunteer for the American Cancer Society in their program Road to Recovery.  Her last and probably the closest to her heart was when Ray Weable  requested she and friend Linda Smith assist him in creating an organization to honor his wife and her battle with breast cancer.  That meeting turned into the Dinah Weable Breast Cancer Survivor event.
Charleene is survived by her children and their families, Mack and Sandee, Rick and Elizabeth and Jennifer and Kenneth. 7 Grandchildren:  8 Great Grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild and two nieces.  One granddaughter preceded her in death.  She is also survived by a special extended family, Loretta Gray, Nita Reynolds, Dee Dee Curry, Shanae Collins, Lori Olgsby and Evelyn Carroll who not only cared for her, but loved her.
