Cecil Gresham, age 70

Mr. Gresham passed away Sunday morning at Baylor Medical Center Dallas. He was born in Quanah, TX.to Sam E. and Maude Cecil (Raby) Gresham. He graduated from Vernon High School, UTA Arlington, Pan America University, and the University of Vermont. Cecil received his BBA and Teacher Certificate. He joined the US Army in 1956, serving in Germany where he received an honorable discharge in 1958. He married Betty Joanna Bruce November 21, 1969 in Waxahachie. Cecil was a licensed social worker. His current employment was with the Waxahachie High School, WISD. He was a former Band Instructor in Vermont, had been Music Director at several churches and for the past 20 years worked with Children's Homes. Having worked at the Homes, Cecil always had interesting stories to tell. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Waxahachie.

Survivors are: his wife, Joanna Gresham of Waxahachie; sons and their wives, Richard Gresham and wife Tammy of Katy, Timothy and Sher Gresham of Crandall, Kenney and Jodene Word of Alvord, Carl and Robin Word of Ringold, LA., and Robby and Julie Word of Waxahachie; surrogate daughters, Cindy Anderson and Sherri Courtney; two brothers, Ronnie Gresham of California and Donald Gresham of Texas; four sisters, Dorothy Baker and husband Bill of Goodrich, Eddie Rector and husband Roy of Quanah, Betty June Thompson and husband Ronnie of Vernon, and Teresa Kay Szabo and husband Jimmy of Garland; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gresham; twenty one grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arnold and Bonnie and one sister, Mildred.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Monday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 1 PM Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Heritage Baptist Church, 1000 Butcher Rd., Waxahachie, with Reverend Tim Gibson and Reverend J. D. Courtney officiating. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. Interment will follow in DFW National Cemeteryat 3 PM. Memorials may be made to Texas Baptist Home, 629 Farley Street, Waxahachie 75165 or Heritage Baptist Church.
