Cathy Hughson

Cathy Lynn Hughson was born on February 5, 1959 in Dallas Texas to Dave and Pat Saunders. She went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2018 after a long fought battle with cancer. Cathy graduated from Duncanville High School, Class of 1977, and began working as a licensed cosmetologist, then a fit model, and later in marketing and sales. However, it wasn't until she proceeded to work in the animal care industry that she found not only her passion but also her calling. She opened and owned her own kennel-pet hotel "Cedar Shade Pet Retreat" for over 20 years, which she loved and flourished in until her health would not allow. She loved all the animals that came to visit her and the owners loved her just as much. She had a passion for cooking and hosting her family and friends. She had the knowledge of an encyclopedia when it came to things that interested her. She had a passion to care for those that couldn't care for themselves, whether four legged or two legged her grit always stood out. She loved her family and friends more than anything. She married her best friend in June of 1996 and they enjoyed many countless adventures together throughout the years. Cathy, Mom or Nana will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Cathy is survived by her husband Tom Hughson of Ovilla, her mother Pat Saunders of Ovilla, her brother Robert Saunders of North Carolina, her daughter April Maddox and husband Chris Maddox of Waxahachie, her grandkids Destiny, Aubree, Dylan, Kelsey, Ely and Presley Maddox, as well as countless other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father David Saunders and her brother Mike Saunders.

The family would like to thank Vitas hospice for their exceptional care and compassion as well as Wayne Boze Funeral home for their hospitality and support through this time.

Her memorial celebration will be held at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County on Friday April 27, 2018 at 2pm. Flowers may be delivered to Wayne Boze Funeral home.
