Cathy Burks

Cathy Helene Underwood Burks, 51 of Waxahachie, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Waxahachie. She was born on October 6, 1961 in Mineral Wells, Texas. Cathy loved cooking, reading, and gardening, but her biggest and proudest accomplishment in her life was her daughter, Kendall. She loved taking care of her family, and she made sure to be involved in every aspect of Kendall's life. Cathy received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, and she also attended Texas Tech University. She was employed by the Waxahachie Independent School District, and she started its communications department. She wrote many articles on behalf of WISD during her career, and she submitted several letters to the editor at the Daily Light. She was a member of the Texas School Public Relations Association and wrote many articles on their behalf as well. She appreciated the efforts of the public educators she encountered, especially those so involved in her daughter's life. Cathy will be greatly missed and continually loved by so many. She is survived by her husband, Ken Burks of Waxahachie; her daughter, Kendall Burks of Waxahachie; her mother, Margareta Underwood of Waxahachie; her brother, Michael Underwood and his wife, Cindy Payne of Knoxville, TN; her sister, Susan Aston of Dallas; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Glenn Underwood; her brother, Johnny Underwood; and also by her sister, Gloria Underwood Brown. A memorial service to celebrate Cathy's life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.
