Carl "Kelly" Jacobson of Maypearl, Texas passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his family on April 26th, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. at Mansfield Methodist Hospital. Carl was born September 15th, 1947 in Medford, OR. He graduated from Oxnard High School in Oxnard, CA before attending and graduating from both Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
Carl met and married his wife Cindy in Midland, Texas where they were both educators. He worked for the Midland Independent School District for 31 years as a junior high football coach, teacher, and gradelevel principal at Midland High School. Known as "Coach J", he touched the lives of thousands of students, encouraging them to always "take care of business" - a philosophy he applied to all areas of life. Many of them then became educators themselves and several relied heavily on his mentoring and guidance skills during their first years of teaching.
After retirement, Carl moved to Maypearl, Texas with Cindy to be closer to his kids and where he became involved in real estate, community service, city government, and ranching. Carl served on the Maypearl Planning and Zoning Committee and was Mayor of Maypearl twice. He was most recently reelected in 2017 but was unable to complete his term due to illness.
Carl did not stray far from his character and leadership strengths which were based on belief, while developing harmony and working towards restoration. For Carl, "TCB" (taking care of business) epitomized all of these strengths; as could be seen in his career choices and also in his personal life. He fully embraced his commitments. As the Mayor of Maypearl, and also as a citizen, you would often see him driving his tractor or lawn mower around town. He epitomized restoration and truly believed in leading by example.
Carl was a devoted husband and father who was happiest when spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed ten years of Texas Aggie football and tailgating at the "Chumson" tailgate with his kids, extended family, friends, and eventually his grandkids. He loved surfing, golfing with his son and son-in-law, and flying airplanes. Following in his father's footsteps, he was a real estate broker for over 20 years and enjoyed dabbling in real estate as a hobby.
Carl's family includes his wife of 37 years, Cindy (Witten) Jacobson of Maypearl; his parents, Dorothy and Lester Jacobson of Thousand Oaks, CA; late brother Keith Jacobson and sister-in-law Cheryl of Newport Beach, CA, sister Lynn Osslund and brother-in-law Timothy of Camarillo, CA; son Chris Jacobson and daughter-in-law Lauren of Plano, TX; son Scott Jacobson, daughter-in-law Alison, grandson Luke, and granddaughter Julia of Aledo, TX; and daughter Becky Jacobson Chumley, son-in-law Keith, and granddaughter Colleen of Bryan, TX. As well as many loving and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in California and also in Sweden.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, April 29, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, TX. http://www.waynebozefuneralhome.com - 1826 W, 4708, US-287 BUS, Waxahachie, TX 75165. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Maypearl Service Center in downtown Maypearl, TX at approximately 3:30 p.m, where all will be welcome.
