He is survived by his wife, Nane Shelton, one son, Kirk Shelton and wife Toni of Forney, three grandchildren, Kate Shelton of Austin, Chris Shelton and wife Rachel of Dallas, and Kim Shelton of Forney, one great-granddaughter, Kylee Shelton, and three brothers. He was born in Plainview, AR on March 9, 1927 and spent most of his childhood in Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma. Shelton graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in engineering. He was veteran of the U.S. Army having served in occupied Japan. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and oversaw design projects on the Arkansas and Red rivers. On several occasions he received recognition and awards for his work. He was a member of the Gideons for almost 40 years and held several offices with the Bible-distribution organization. For the last nine years he was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Red Oak where his son was a former pastor. He loved the Lord, his family, his work, teaching Sunday School, astronomy, bird-watching, music, tutoring and much more. While living in Waxahachie he was a Friend of the Library and a member of the Chataquah society. Among all who worked and went to church with him, he was known as dependable and trustworthy. Whatever he decided to do, he did it with a whole heart. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Gideons Memorial Bible Fund.
