C. W. Wood of Waxahachie passed away on Saturday night, April 9, 2005. He was born at the family home place in Joshua on April 23, 1913, to Gabriel Austin and Charles Clarence Wood, the third of nine children. He attended school in the Pleasant View Community and Joshua.
C. W. married Zula Lee Hibbitt on August 29, 1936 and celebrated 65 years of marriage together. They lived in Joshua, Pasadena, Cleburne and College Station at various times; raising their children in Pasadena.
C. W. was a pipe-fitter by trade, belonging to Local No. 211 and upon retirement, he was a real estate owner and broker of American Realty in Pasadena. He was an early member of the Memorial Baptist Church, Pasadena, ordained deacon in 1954, and was Training Union director and Sunday School teacher. He was a former member and deacon of College Heights Baptist Church, Cleburne, where he taught a men's Sunday School Class and is presently a member of First Baptist Church, Waxahachie. He was an avid gardener and woodworker. He was the family historian, recording and preserving family memories for future generations. C. W. is survived by his children, J. W. Wood and wife, Anna Maria of San Antonio, Thomas E. Wood and wife, Tybitha of Italy, and Cora Lynn Martin and husband, Bert E. of Waxahachie. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Michael Lloyd Wood and wife, Tara and daughter, Rachael of Oviedo, FL, Lisa Ann Teleha and husband, Michael and twins, Quinn Michael and Annalisa of Dallas, Gianna Marie Glaesmann and husband, Bradley and sons, Grand and Adam of Dallas, Michelle Lynette Goettle and husband, Brian and children, Tyler, Garrett, Cooper and namesake, C. W. Walker of Filer, Idaho, Bambi A'Lynn Fullerton of Dallas, Jill D'Lee Tew and husband, Monty and sons, Chase, Ford, and Gabriel of Round Rock, and Jerad E. Martin and wife, Brittany and daughter, Kinsley of Waxahachie. Also, three sisters-in-law, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Zula Lee; his parents; three sisters; five brothers and two nieces.
C. W. was a sweet, kind man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly and he was loved and adored in return. He was a great man of faith, passing that enduring faith along through two generations.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie. The Celebration of Life will be 3 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home, 414 N. Main St., Cleburne, TX. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Burial will be at Caddo Cemetery, Joshua.
