Bonnie Ruth Simmons, age 86

Mrs. Simmons passed away Saturday evening at Medical Center of Mesquite Hospital, Mesquite, TX. She was born to Wesley and Mary Helen (Moser) Gardner in Ringgold, TX. She married J. B. Simmons September 24, 1932 in Marietta, OK. They lived in the Panhandle area until moving to Ellis County in 1943. Mrs. Simmons was "Home Run Queen of Softball" in Slidell Schools, Slidell, TX. She retired from Roy Lee Dress Factory after 25 years. She was always very active in church and was one of the founders of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and the last few years was a faithful attendee at Bethel Baptist Church, Waxahachie.

She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jackie Simmons of Kingwood, TX.; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. B. Simmons in 1961; two sons, Jimmie R. Simmons in 1996 and Herbie D. Simmons in 2001; one daughter, Shirley Spain in 2003; one brother and three sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Bethel Baptist Church, 2848 Brown St. Waxahachie with Reverend Dick Bass officiating. Pallbearers will be Ron Simmons, JR., Doug Spain, Robert Simmons, Jeff Simmons, Ed Peete and Rich Holt. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
