Billy Ray Thompson, age 73
April 28, 1932
October 5, 2005

Mr. Thompson passed away Wednesday evening at his Waxahachie residence. He was born in Bells, TX. to Calvin C. and Mary Elizabeth (Morgan) Thompson. Billy Ray had been a Waxahachie resident for 37 years, having been transferred from South Carolina by Owens-Corning Fiberglass where, at the time of his retirement, he was a quality control specialist. He was employed by Owens-Corning 32 years. Mr. Thompson was a Staff SGT in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On December 1, 1951 he married Emma Jean Robinson in Hope, AR. During the ensuing 53 years, his devotion to her and their three sons was his ultimate goal. Subsequently were added daughters-in-law and grandchildren who shared in his devotion. Billy Ray also enjoyed to the fullest gardening, fishing and football. He was a member of the Bells Baptist Church, Bells, TX.

Survivors are: his wife of 53 years, Jean Thompson of Waxahachie; sons, Billy Ray Thompson, Jr. and his wife Jocelyn, Henry Thompson and his wife Grace, and Sidney Gene Thompson, all of Waxahachie; grandchildren: Jennifer, Henry, JR., Brandi Lea, Julie Le'Anne, and Jonathan; also surviving are two sisters, Margaret Derebery of Ok. City, OK. and Thelma Wilson of Pilot Point, TX.. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-9 PM Friday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be10 AM Saturday, October 8, 2005 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Leroy Fenton officiating. Pallbearers will be James Grigsby, Mike Forehand, Norman Bell, Tommy Jones, Charlie Johnson and James Self. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry McCorkle, Robin Lee, Max Campbell, Phil McAdams, Ray Talbot, and Gene Thompson. Interment will follow in the Waxahachie City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
