Billy Joe Glendening, age 84, of Palmer, Texas, passed away on April 7, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas. He was born on March 19, 1941, in Harrison, Arkansas, and lived most of his life in Palmer.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggy Jean Glendening, whom he married on September 5, 1960. He was also preceded in death by his father, Rufus Glendening; his mother, Margaret Glendening; and his siblings, Buck Glendening, RC Glendening, Roy Glendening, and Joy Fae Oden.
He is survived by his loving sons and their partners: Michael Glendening and his wife Kristie, William Glendening and his wife Melissa, and Billy Joe Glendening Jr. and his girlfriend Britney; his cherished grandchildren: Sarah Glendening, Brian Glendening, Amanda Glendening, Mark Glendening, Brett Glendening, Michael Forester, Kaydee Alexander, and Jesse Cook; and his adored great-grandchildren: Oliver Cook, Luke Forester, Elijah Alexander, and Emmett Alexander. Bill is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Barbara Baker.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years, attaining the rank of Private First Class. He was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of Fundamental Baptist Church in Palmer, deeply committed to his faith. For 42 years, Bill owned and operated Bill's Auto and Truck Repair, with the dedicated help of Tommy Hamm and many others throughout the years.
In his leisure time, Bill loved to play dominoes and approached the game with passion and a competitive spirit. He was a spiritual inspiration to his family and all who knew him, touching many lives as a good friend and confidant. Known for his generosity and desire to serve others, Bill's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, which he readily shared with those around him. He had a gift for encouraging others and helping them strive to be their best selves.
A visitation will be held at the Fundamental Baptist Church, located at 209 W Jefferson St, Palmer, TX, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life service will follow at the same location at 11:00 am. Graveside service will be held at the Palmer Cemetery in Palmer, Texas, immediately following the Celebration of Life. A reception will then be held back at the Fundamental Baptist Church, 209 W Jefferson St, Palmer, TX.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family kindly requests that charitable donations be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Billy Joe Glendening.
