Billie Marie Younger, 87, of Waxahachie, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of December 30th, 2021. Her best friend was by her side.
Billie was born in Hillsboro, Tx on May 28th, 1934 to Osie D. Barnet Younger and Clyde Wilkes Younger. She later moved to Dallas with her mother but returned to Hillsboro for her high school years to live with her grandmother, whom she affectionately called, “Modee.” Billie graduated from Hillsboro High School in May 1952. After high school graduation, Billie graduated from Brantley Draghon Business School. Billie then started her career in business in 1953. Billie worked at Service Fire Insurance Company, Dallas; Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company, Ft. Worth and; Continental Grain Company, Ft.Worth. While working in the business field, Billie went to night school and obtained her Bachelor’s of Education from Texas Wesleyan College in 1968. Billie went on to obtain her Master’s in Business Education and Counseling from North Texas State University in 1971. Billie did post masters PhD. studies at North Texas State University, concentrating in Administrative Leadership. Billie was also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Billie started her career in the education profession in 1968 with the Ft Worth Independent School District where she stayed for 28 years. Billie held the following positions during her tenure with FWISD: O.D. Wyatt High School where she taught accounting, bookkeeping, typing and English; Counselor, O.D. Wyatt High School; Vocational Counselor, O.D.Wyatt High School and Trimble Tech High School; Assistant Principal, Handley Middle School; Principal, Glen Crest Middle School; Principal, Wedgewood Middle School for 10 years until her retirement in June of 1995. Billie then went on to work at FWISD Competency Based High School Diploma Program (CBHSD) for 14 years, retiring in August of 2009.
Billie was an excellent athlete and was fiercely competitive. In Billie’s young adult years, she played fast pitch for the Ft. Worth Motorettes, a traveling ladies fast pitch team. Billie played “a mean 3rd base.” Billie also enjoyed playing tennis and played competitively on leagues in Ft. Worth. Billie was an awesome golfer and was a past member of Suburban Ladies, Country Club Ladies and Mountain Valley Ladies Golf Association where she was club champion and experienced her first “hole in one.” Billie was a member of Waxahachie Country Club and continued to play until she broke her hip in 2019. Billie did continue to go out and “chip and putt” whenever she was able to do so. Billie also enjoyed working in her yard and smelling her “freshly cut grass.” Billie loved animals, especially Atticus (who passed away in June), BOO, Finch and Scout. Billie also never met a stranger and would talk to anyone, especially little children.
Billie was a strong woman of faith. She never wavered on her belief in Jesus Christ. Billie was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Waxahachie.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Osie B. (Modee) and Will Barnett (Dada Will) and; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Gail Younger.
Billie is survived by her niece, Rikki Morrow, great-niece, Jody Gentry (Greg), great-nephew, Duff Morrow (Kaley); great- great nieces, Collette Gentry and Bristol Morrow; great-great nephews, Jack and Henry Gentry and Bentley and Macon Morrow.
Billie is also survived by her best friend and soulmate, Cathy L. McGinnis, and her entire family, who embraced Billie as their own. Angie and Wesley Coffman; Nephews and Niece: Zac (Tori) Coffman; Adam (Amanda) Coffman; Shelli Poteet; Chad (Kaitlyn) Coffman. Great-Nieces and Nephews: Patrick, Colton, Mason, Paxton, Kylie, Adyson, Abby, Lilly, Hannah, Hallie, Chloe, Maddie, Emmy, Harper, Juliette, Jackson and Kace.
