Betty Jo Smithwick Shawver passed into the loving arms of God, Wednesday February 20, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.

Born August 4, 1928, in Sterrett, Texas, she was the youngest of five children of Tom & Minnie (Walker) Smithwick. She is preceded in death by her parents and her maternal Grandparents Joseph S. Walker & Martha Burns, her paternal Grandparents William W. Smithwick & Allie Lee Solomon and her only brother Thomas Jr.

She married George Alderson Shawver in 1947. Last August they celebrated 60 years of marriage in their home in Duncanville. Betty loved her grand children and took special pride in teaching them with a Grandmother's humor, kindness, patients, & wisdom. Gardening was her private passion but her family was her devotion.

Betty is survived by her husband George, and three children Carol Shawver Vincell of Waxahachie, George Alderson Shawver Jr. of Grand Prairie, & Janet Lee Shawver of Duncanville, her four Grandchildren Chris Bateman, Becky Moss, Libby Ashton, & George Shawver III, her three Great Grandchildren Brandi Steele, and Tripp & Tanner Moss, and her sisters Hazel Lawson of St Petersburg, FL., Lola Ballard of Forreston, & Lois Shellenberger Agee also of Forreston, TX and her many beloved nieces & nephews.

The family will mourn their loss & will celebrate her life on Saturday February 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 W. Hwy. 287 Business, in Waxahachie, TX. Visitation with the family will be on Friday evening 6:00 - 8:00pm.
