She graduated valedictorian from Adamson High School in 1944 and received a full scholarship to Southern Methodist University, where she received a degree in Psychology in 1948. While at SMU she met WWII veteran Hughie Ausa Brown, Jr., of Port Arthur, Texas. They married on June 26, 1948 and lived a joyous life together until his death in 2000.
Betty Lou and Hugh were confirmed into the Episcopal Church at St. George's, Dallas in 1952. They remained active in their church their entire lives. She was also active in her garden, bridge and book clubs. She retired from the VA Hospital where she worked in administration in cardiology and nuclear medicine.
Betty Lou passed from this life into life eternal on September 18, 2007 after a sudden illness. She is survived by daughter Rebecca and her husband Robert;son Hugh and his wife, Carla; grandson William and his fiancee, Kimberly; niece Sherry Ray; nephew Terry Lee and his wife, Shannon; nephew George Changos; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
Betty Lou and Hugh came to this congregation in 1997 when they moved from Dallas to Midlothian. Upon her death she was directress of the Flower Guild and the Wedding Guild, chair of the Stewardship Committee and Secretary of the Episcopal Church Women. We will miss her in our earthly lives, but we rejoice in her journey to our Lord, Jesus Christ. "Into paradise may the angels lead you. At your coming may the martyrs receive you, and bring you into the holy city Jerusalem."
