Mrs. Brown passed away Friday at Baylor Medical Center Waxahachie. She was born in Wise County on June 16, 1911 to James R. and Minnie Lee (Willig) Mercer. She married Leighton J. Brown on February 16, 1931 in Montague County. Mrs. Brown lived in Bowie until moving to Waxahachie in 1997. She was a farmer's daughter, enjoying cooking, sewing, gardening and yard work. She loved her flowers and always enjoyed visiting her nieces and nephews over the years. Mrs. Brown was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Brown is survived by: one brother, Henry Mercer of Boyce, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Rippey and Lois Autrey, both of Waxahachie; two sisters-in-law, Alice Mercer of Boyce and Helen Mercer of Lancaster, Texas. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leighton, and two brothers, Ervin Mercer and E.L. Mercer.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 pm Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be at 10 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Brown officiating. Pallbearers will be Dusty Autrey, Heath Autrey, Leighton Autrey, Jeff Bell, Kyle Butler, and Harry Green. Interment will follow in the Bowie City Cemetery, Bowie, Texas at 2:30 PM.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Ferris Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1401 Ferris Ave. Waxahachie, Texas. 75165.
