Becky Rutenbar

November 9, 1954 — September 30, 2012

Becky Thomas Rutenbar, 57 of Waxahachie, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2012, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Dover P. Thomas, Jr. and Betty Thomas Cooper on November 9, 1954 in Andrews, Texas. In her life Becky loved many things - the ocean, taking long walks, watching her children play sports, collecting all sorts of rocks and shells, a good Dr. Pepper! She loved reading, sometimes reading a book a day, and decorating. She even kept up with the crazy reality shows of the day - imagining herself on The Amazing Race, Survivor or Big Brother, possibly even winning one day. But Becky's true love was people. Family, friends, strangers…One simply could not be in her presence without receiving a hug. She greeted you with a smile and said "farewell" in the same manner. She laughed at life, celebrating joys with those who were joyful and sharing grief with those who went through pain. She was a true friend. She dearly loved her family and held every member in high regard. Her children, grandchildren and her very special nieces and nephews brought her incredible joy. She worked tirelessly for the comfort of others, yet would not bring attention to herself. Being a past president of the PTO and a recipient of the Volunteer of the Month award demonstrated her real passion to serve the children and families of the WISD community. She believed the best in everyone and had great faith in others' abilities to rise above negative circumstances. She was a champion of kindness and a true believer in the goodness of God in all situations. Our lives are short without a smile and a hug a day from Becky. She enriched every life that she touched, and thankfully, her loving touch will remain. "Now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." I Corinthians 13:13 She is survived by her husband, David Rutenbar of Waxahachie; her sons, Spencer Rutenbar and his wife, Kristen of Waxahachie, Jordan Rutenbar of Waxahachie; her loving mother, Betty Thomas Cooper of Andrews, Texas; her mother-in-law, Alice Keith Rutenbar; her brother, Jerry and his wife, Marlena of Brownfield, Texas; her sisters, Frances Thomas Spence and husband, Andrew of Houston, Texas, Leta Parker of Lumberton, Texas; also by her loving grandchildren, Kaylee Rutenbar, Carter Rutenbar and Claire Rutenbar; her sister-in-laws, Marsha Rutenbar of Waxahachie, Camille "Missy" Glass and her husband, Sam of Houston; her brother-in-law, Steve Rutenbar and his wife, Connie of Dove Canyon, CA; and also by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Dover P. Thomas, Jr.; her sister, Kay Thomas Bigbee; by her father-in-law, Rev. George H. Rutenbar; and also by her brother-in-law, John Parker. Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Waxahachie Bible Church with Rev. Bruce Zimmerman officiating.
