Barbara Louise Brigman, age 85, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016. She was a long time resident of Maypearl, TX. She was born April 14, 1931 to Fred and Mamie Dobbs, in Honeygrove, TX. Her father died from tuberculosis when Barbara was only 2 yrs old, and she was raised by her mother and step father, Hugo Gelhausen. Barbara graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, and then attended TCU, as a nursing student. It was during her college stay, when she was introduced by a fellow student to E.L. Brigman, who was from Maypearl. They were married soon after and had 2 sons. E.L. and Barbara also helped raise their two nieces. They were married 66 years, until E.L.'s passing in March 2016.
Barbara was known as a very strong and loving lady. She spent her time taking care of her grandchildren, as they grew up, and then her great-grandchildren. She helped daily in the care of her elderly parents and in-laws to make sure everyone was comfortable and given proper attention. She was always the one that was called when anyone was sick or needed medical advice. She loved her family, and always had a huge smile on her face. She was kind, playful, and loved singing silly songs, and playing games with all her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by us all.
Barbara is survived by her two sons: Fred Brigman and wife Ann, and David Brigman, both from Maypearl; one daughter, Sonya Ayers and husband, Rickey of Waxahachie; six grandchildren: Ivan Brigman of Maypearl, Kaysie Hosiner of Waxahachie, Amy Johnson of Galveston, Davie Kujawa of Purdon, TX, Jamey Petri of Austin, TX, and David Ayers of Grand Forks, ND.; Nieces: Kay Smith and her daughter, Paige Taylor, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, E. L. Brigman; her parents, Fred Dobbs, and Hugo and Mamie Gelhausen, sister Margaret Simmons, her daughter-in-law, Betty Brigman, and nephew, Dustin Smith.
Private services were held under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie, TX. Interment was held on Saturday, September 10th, at Auburn Cemetery in Maypearl, TX.
