Arlin Glenn White - 84

November 4, 1923
March 13, 2008

Surrounded by his family, Arlin G. White passed away on Thursday. March 13, 2008, at Renfro Healthcare Center in Waxahachie, Texas after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Arlin was born to Willie and Eva Tapley White on November 4, 1923, in Wood County, Texas. He moved to Ellis County at an early age and grew up in this area. He was of the Baptist faith.

Arlin served his country in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in the European theatre. He received his honorable discharge from the service on September 17, 1945.

Upon returning home from his tour of duty, he entered the law enforcement field as a police officer with the City of Waxahachie, Many will remember him as "Motorcycle Willie", which is how the teenagers referred to him back then. He later was employed by Ellis County Shiriff, Jess Cariker.

In 1949 Arlin went to work as a security guard at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie, which later was known as Chance Vought.

In the mid 1960's he entered into the cabinet building business, which later turned into a home construction business. Along with his wife Betty, they spent many years building homes in this area, and he made quite a name for himself because of the quality of his work. Arlin loved that business and really enjoyed pleasing people.

As anyone who knew him knows, Arlin was an avid fisherman. You could always ask him where the fish were biting, and he could pretty well tell you. He and Betty spent many an enjoyable weekend fishing the Trinity River with friends, Charles and Arvella O'Daniel.

Another one of Arlin's favorite pastimes was working in his vegetable garden. He spent many an hour there hoeing weeds and tending to his "crops", and he took great pride in the result of his hard work in the garden.

Arlin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty Jean White, of Waxahachie; son, Larry White and wife Pat of Waxahachie; daughters, Glenda Hicks and husband Bill of Waxahachie, and Deborah Nelson and husband Joel of Dallas; stepson, Richard Kim Huffstetler and wife Mary Lou of Plano; stepdaughter, Cindy Kelley and husband Mike of Waxahachie; and brother Billy Joe White and wife Peggy of Arlington. Surviving grandchildren are Gary White and wife Pam, Amy Morton and husband Clint, Jill Howard, Karen Eves, Kristin Sheppard and Michael Wooley. Surviving step-grandchildres are Angela Smith and husband Greg, Kris Kelley and wife Mitze, Allison Huffstetler, and Craig Huffstetler. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 2:30 P.M., at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. Officiating the service will be Brother John Sursa. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Bural Park in Waxahachie. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 15, 2008 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.

Pallbearers will be Gary White, Clint Morton, Kris Kelley, Greg Smith, Craig Huffstetler and Joel Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Royal Bell, H. L. Huddleston, Larry Huddleston, Jim O'Daniel, Charles O'Daniel, Terry Stiz, Charles Lipsey, George Michalka, Jay Hayes, and Victor Salazar.
