Alfred Clyde Price, Sr. "Sonny"

January 12, 1934 — February 16, 2025

Forreston, Texas

Alfred Clyde “Sonny” Price Sr. was born January 12, 1934, in De Queen, Arkansas. He went to glory on February 16, 2025, from his home, surrounded by family. Sonny attended W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas, and at only 17 years old, he boldly set out for Chicago on a motorcycle to attend Coyne Electrical School. He eventually became a Master Electrician, served as an instructor at an apprenticeship school in Dallas, and established his own company, Price Electric, which he successfully operated out of Oak Cliff, Texas, for many years. Sonny also ran cattle on his farm, where many grandchildren grew up romping around in the mud, running across rows of hay bales, and swimming in the ponds.

As a teenager, Sonny worked as a “buckle boy” at a local skating rink. He loved “anything on wheels,” so it was no surprise that when Shirley Maxine Dennis skated up to him at only 13 years old, Sonny fell in love. They eventually married, and this past July, they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Sonny served as a Deacon at Italy First Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church in Waxahachie. He was a Christian who understood the grace of God and ministered to others. There are a couple of things that we can be certain of today – Sonny is now with Jesus… and he is carrying a pocket knife and a handkerchief in his pocket!

Alfred Clyde “Sonny” Price Sr. is survived by his son, Alfred Clyde Price Jr. (Bud) & his wife Molly, and by his daughter, Nancy Edwards & her husband Pat. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Whitmire, and his sister-in-law, Patricia Price. His grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Pop”, are as follows: Ryan Edwards & his wife, Therese; April Moon & Matthew Washington; Jake Price & Courtney Cosdon; and Nathan Price & Megan Chavez. His great-grandchildren are as follows: Tyler Edwards & his wife, Rachel; Colt Edwards; Brady Moon & Katie Heiman; Braxton Moon & his wife, Sophia; and Jaelle Moon. In addition, he had two great-great-grandsons, Easton Edwards and Dawson Knox, and many nieces and nephews who adored him!

Alfred Clyde “Sonny” Price Sr. is preceded in death by: his father, Fred Olen Price Sr.; his mother, Nancy Clarice Bonds Price; his brother, Fred Olen Price Jr.; his sister, Elaine Evans & her husband, Joe Evans, and many friends.

Sonny’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, February 20, at 1:00 in the afternoon. The graveside service will be held at Avalon Hughes Cemetery with Dr. Glenn Ledbetter officiating the service and Tyler Edwards (Pop’s oldest great-grandson) leading the music. Family and friends will meet at “the farm” at 11:30 am to eat lunch and reminisce about Pop’s many shenanigans over the years. They will then follow one another to Avalon’s cemetery at 12:30 pm. All funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas.
