Addison "Dupree" Davis, Jr. August 29, 1926 December 5, 2010 Addison Dupree Davis, 84 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 in Dallas. He was born to the late Addison D. and Mary E. Sharp Davis on August 29, 1926 in Waxahachie. Eldest son and namesake of his father former Mayor of Waxahachie, County Clerk, and the County Superintendent of Public Instruction, Addison Dupree Davis, Sr. Dupree served in the US Navy, Seaman First Class (GM) on the USS Henderson (1944-46) Honorable Discharge with Victory medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He attended Young School of Design where he met the love of his life Marianna "Nan", and married her in Waxahachie (1951). They relocated to pursue his art career in New York City and later at A. Harris as an advertising artist upon returning to Texas with his wife for the birth of their first child. They relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas and owed and operated a floral shop, then returned to Dallas and worked as a partner in the Ad Agency Henry, Marshall & Davis. He served as Executive regional Campaign Manager for Radio Free Europe in the 1960's and then was hired at the Dallas County United Way as Assistant Campaign Director and continued his career with United Way in Colorado Springs, CO until he retired after the birth of his second grandchild returned to Texas to start an antique business with his wife "Hidden Treasures" in Forreston, Texas. Dupree served as the first Curator of the Ellis County Historical Museum and volunteered at the Ellis County Democratic Headquarters. Forever an artist, his talent was in drawing, painting, sculpture, furniture refinishing and custom woodworking. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, coffee, and made the best pralines his friends and family looked forward to each Christmas! Known to all as 'Dupree', he was the epitome of the word, gentleman, patient, mannerly, and modest, a man of superb integrity, and an excellent listener who would give fair and sensible advice--but only when asked. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Crittenden and her husband, Jim of Garland, Cathy Peterson and her husband, Gary of Collierville, TN; his sister, Mary Jean Davis of Beaumont; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Sara Ann Tarver and her husband, Michael of Brashear, Tx, Andrew Crittenden of Garland, Brian Peterson of Memphis, TN, Eric Peterson and his fiance, Candice Cayson of Bozeman, Montana. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marianna "Nan" Davis; and his brother, Bob Davis. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Waxahachie City Cemetery under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
